Exclusive interview Julian Jordan: 'Free music is the future!'
Jan 18, 2016
With his newest single 'All Night' now available as a free download, we caught Julian Jordan for an exclusive interview, checking him for his 2016 plans, his music and what tips he has for Spinnin's Talent Pool producers..
First of all, what have you been up to lately? Any new year’s resolutions you’ve already realized or saw broken into pieces?
"I'm working a lot in the studio these days. Just making so much music and experimenting with other styles/genres! My new years revolution is to do things bigger in 2016. And I'm working hard on it!"
What are you up to in 2016; any gigs or releases you’re looking forward to in particular?
"I've really looked forward to my new track 'All Night'! I play it every show and it goes off! For the rest I'm looking forward to all my shows in 2016 and especially looking forward to see all my fans at all of the shows."
Talking about ‘All Night’, out now on Spinnin’ Premium, how did you produce this track? Did you have an idea about the track upfront, or did the sounds arise along the way?
"I was just messing around in the studio, trying different styles and genres. Then I came up with the drop and everything clicked. It has a little bit of an 'urban' influence and that's what I really like about it. I really tried to push my boundaries again on this release!"
‘All Night’ is a free download. What do you think of music as a giveaway?
"I love it, because people will download a track more easily than buy it. So a lot of people have your track on their iPod, phone or pc. And that's what I really like about it. I feel like giving away music for free is the future!"
How do you see dance music evolve in 2016? Any new developments you’re excited about?
"I feel like everyone is trying to do something new & fresh and that's what I love. I hear a lot of diverse and different music coming up and as a producer I love that."
And finally, there’s a lot of new music being uploaded on Spinnin’s Talent Pool. What do you advise these producers when it comes to technique, sound and promotion?
"On technique: one thing I think is really important, that you are 100% satisfied with your track. So give it all you got, the best mixdown, the best sounds and the best master. And don't forget that it's music, so there's no rules. When you think your track is perfect, it is perfect! There are no rules so there is no perfect master or perfect track."
"When it comes to sound: try to be original and try to make something you think is cool! Don't follow the hype, create it! Just create what's inside your head."
"And when it comes to promotion: this is important, so it's good to make an account on every social media platform. Try to look professional, even if you just started you can try to look like a 'big deal'. Make good press pics and invest in music videos/artworks etc. Good luck!"
'All Night' is out now on Spinnin' Premium, available as a free download until Friday 29 January.
