Exclusive interview Pierce: 'I’m so pumped the public can finally hear it!'

Nov 15, 2016

Pierce recently released his Audi EP and is the first artist to take over our Trap & Bass Spotify playlist. High time to have an exclusive interview with him about all those gems in this playlist, his brand new 'Audi EP' (out now!), future plans and advice to our Talent Pool producers.

Pierce is bringing massive trap sounds on his first solo EP, including three bangers: ‘Audi’, ‘Made’ and ‘Whip It Up’. And you still have a little time left to get these tunes for free right here! No bigger reason to invite this young rising talent to take over our new Trap & Bass Spotify playlist. Pierce is the first of many to come, however this guy knows how to kick it off strong!

We had a chat with Pierce, check it out!

Your new EP is out now. What can you tell us about this collection?
“Yes, I know! I’m so pumped the public can finally hear it! The way I made ‘Audi’, was literally when I was rapping in the shower (yes, I actually rap, some people sing, but I spit BARS hahaha). Anyway, I was spitting, thought about one of my family cars, and the hook came to me spontaneously just like that. Then I recorded it and built the whole song around it, wrapped up within a couple of days. If you didn’t know, all the tracks without a vocal featuring, is me rapping on the tune. I write and record all of it! ‘Made’ was finished so fast. I was so hyped for some reason with a group of my friends while I was in the studio producing, and they dared me to see how fast I could make a track, and boom just like that. It was literally done within 30 minutes, without the vocals. Last, but not least, ‘Whip It Up’ was made in about a week or so. I wanted to make something simple, but nasty and hit hard on the dance floor. So I spent a day or so developing the drop synth and finally got it on the swing groove that it has in the drop. Recorded the vocal myself, and boom it was done like that!”

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
“Well, for many years I’ve tried to make some other type of music that really wasn’t me (but thought people would accept). I could never finish a track because I couldn’t see the light at the tunnel for the track. In 2015, I only finished one track that entire year, but just alone in 2016, I have over 20+ tracks that are done and waiting to be heard. Moral from this train of thought is to do and make whatever you want! The rest will follow :)”

What are your goals for the future?
“To go on a massive tour around the US or the world, to release two or three EPs within two years, to have major collabs with my idols and to make a full music video.”

And now about your playlist take over! How did you put together the top 10 for the Trap & Bass Spotify playlist?
“Well, the way I put my top 10 together was by selecting the tunes I’ve been rocking out to within the last couple of months. I picked some that were rage your face off hard, some that were groovy, and some that were just straight out weird, but dope in a good way.”What is the biggest trap or bass track in your opinion?
“Oooh, that’s so hard to choose! They’re so many good tunes that have been released this year. If there has to be one, it would either be, “Delta Heavy - White Flag (Tisoki Remix)” or “Virtual Riot - Dragons”. Those guys are impeccable at sound design/mix downs, and every time I hear these songs I get so pumped and hyped.”

What is your favorite trap or bass artist?
“God, you guys love picking the tough questions to ask, I kid I kid haha. Favorite bass artist at the moment probably has to be Herobust, or Tisoki again haha! Every time either one of these artists puts out a tune and I see it on my Soundcloud feed, I get so excited/blown away by the track. Either on the sound design and how he tries to push the limits, or the amazing mix downs. God, perfect mix downs is what I strive for!”

What do you think is the most interesting development in dance music these days?
“I think the most interesting development in dance music is the ability to share ideas with someone across the world, get it instantly back and have it done all seamless. Splice does a great job with that, and I can’t wait to see what technology does in the future to advance music production and the distribution of it.”

And finally, what would you advise the upcoming stars on our Talent Pool?
“The main thing I would give as advice is to BE YOURSELF! Make whatever you like and make it the better than anyone else, and you will succeed. if you put your head down, work countless hours, and take care of yourself (physically and mentally) then there’s nothing stopping you! :) Also, advice on how to make a track. Always start with the drop, then the break/hook, then the structure, and finally the last details. Build the most important part and expand, helps tons!”
