Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday featuring Vicetone

Dec 16, 2016

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing Spotify playlist. Featured this week (among many others): Vicetone!  They're releasing their new single 'Landslide' today, and provide the list with some musical tips, and tell all about it in this exclusive interview.

Working with Youngblood Hawke for their new single 'Landslide', the Vicetone guys are featured today in our weekly New Dance Music Friday. Here's what they have to say about it..

Hey, you just released your new track Landside together with Youngblood Hawke. How did you create this?
"Ever since we remixed their song 'We Come Running' we wanted to make a track with them. So when we finally linked up in the studio, they showed us what they did with 'Landslide'. We loved the vocal and asked if we could make a completely different song out of it. When we built the track around their vocals, we instantly had this catchy old school hip hop vibe which reminded us of the old Dr Dre productions. We progressed it into a blend of hip hop and indie with some Vicetone dance elements and we love how it turned out!"

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"For us it's really interesting and mostly fun to try out different styles like this, especially if it's influenced by tracks we used to listen to when we were young. This track turned out so well that it's definitely up on the list of our favorite tracks we've made so far. It really clicked with this one so we decided to release it, even though it's the first time we are putting out a song in this style."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
"We use it often, it makes listening and sharing music so easy with the playlist configurations. For us as artists, it has become incredibly important because of that reason. And as music fans, it's great to discover new unknown tracks we otherwise wouldn't have found."

Which artists/tracks released this week should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
"Krewella - Team, Clean Bandit - Rockabye, Steve aoki - Just Hold On, Matoma - Heart Won't Forget"
