Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday featuring Watermät

Apr 7, 2017

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing Spotify playlist. Featured this week (among many others): Watermät!  He released his new single ‘Won't Stop’ this week, and provide the list with some musical tips, and tells all about it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you just released your new track ‘Won’t Stop’. How did you create this?
"The funny thing with this track is that I started it on an airport, after missing my flight. I've done the organic part of the music there, and the synths back at my studio a couple of days later. I had a studio session planned in London some weeks after with Kelli-Leigh, so I brought along the instrumental I had made, and we did the vocal part in a couple of hours."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"I wanted to go back to something with a bit more organic elements like flutes and strings. I really like to have a contrast between this and more electric parts, like distorted analog synths. But I don't really want to conceptualise the music too much, I like to keep it spontaneous."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
"I think Spotify changes the way everyone is listening to music. We can reach so many people through Spotify now that it becomes even more important than the regular selling platforms."

Which tracks released this week should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
Zac Samuel - 'Losing You'
Jamiroquai - 'Cloud 9 (Purple Disco Machine Remix)'
Waze & Odyssey - 'Down With Tha'
Moby - 'Natural Blues (Reinier Zonneveld's Homage Remix)'
