Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday featuring Don Diablo
Jun 9, 2017
We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing Spotify playlist. Featured this week (among many others): Don Diablo! He released his new single ‘Save A Little Love’ today, and provides the list with some musical tips, and tells all about it in this exclusive interview.
Hey, you just released your new track ‘Save A Little Love’. How did you create this?
"I worked on this song with Swedish singer / songwriter duo Smith and Thell who provided the vocals for Save A Little Love. The last couple of months I have remixed songs for artists like the Chainsmokers & Coldplay, DJ Snake & Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Bastille amongst others. This really had an effect on my own music as well, it mostly underlined how important it is to have a good song and not just a sonically impressive production. I basically wanted to make a track that would still incorporate all of my trademarks sounds as a producer, but combined with a more solid song based structure, so this time around I started with the song and the rest came after."
What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"I will always make electronic music that will work in my DJ sets and you will always be able to recognise my trademark sounds, but I also feel that the music that's coming up next shows another more song driven side of me without losing my edge as a producer. I love making tracks that sound great on a big sound system but I also love seeing people smile and sing along to my music when it comes on so I am more open to finding a more weighed out balance for this now."
The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
"It has revolutionized the way people consume music and also in a way artists like myself make music. Spotify has basically created a platform that allows you to have success outside of the traditional radio space that has dictated people's music of choice for so many years. I am super proud to be in the top500 most streamed artists on Spotify and I have big plans for the future to make sure people will stay captivated and excited."
Which tracks released this week should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
