Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday with Lucas & Steve

They're releasing their new single 'You Don't Have To Like It' together with Janieck today, and talk about the creation of it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you just released your new single 'You Don't Have To Like It' together with Janieck. How did you create this?
"'For this track we had a target in mind. It was our goal to write and produce a song that was full vocal but would still be energetic enough to play during our sets. As soon as Janieck arrived at our studio we chose some chords as a starting point and all melodies and even the lyrics followed from that naturally."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"I think this track shows that a club record and a commercial track can still be combined, even with the pop music development that’s been going on. This can be really difficult, but we feel that this track combines both sides."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is Spotify to you?
"To start with, Spotify is super important to the both of us because that’s where we stream all of our music ourselves. When we’re on tour far from home, this is how we take our private playlist with us. Professionally Spotify is equally important. Today there are no hits (also not on the radio) that do not stand out at Spotify. Everybody needs those Spotify plays to make it to the next step in his/her career (in music)."

Which recently released dance tracks should definitely be added to New Dance Music Friday?
"We really like the massive collaboration between Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Brooks and Stargate - 'Like I Do'."
