Exclusive interview: New Dance Music Friday with Sam Feldt

We proudly present the New Dance Music Friday feature, your weekly update on all newly released dance tracks, brought together on one amazing playlist. Featured this week (among many others): Sam Feldt! He releases his new single 'Heaven (Don't Have A Name)' (feat. Jeremy Renner) today, and talks about the creation of it in this exclusive interview.

Hey, you are releasing your new single 'Heaven (Don't Have A Name)' (feat. Jeremy Renner) today. How did you create this? 
"It's been a long but a fun process! I first received the rough vocal idea about a year ago and I immediately fell in love with it. I especially liked the dark and cinematic vibes it had and was intrigued to find a way to twist it into a Sam Feldt single. After playing around with it in the studio for a while, my publisher reached out to me and said the actor Jeremy Renner wanted to release a single and further develop his musical career. I only knew Jeremy from his movies (The Avengers, Hurt Locker, Wind River etc), of which I am a big fan so I was very curious to hear him sing. After checking out some of his music I thought his voice would be perfect on 'Heaven (Don't Have A Name)' and Jeremy went into the studio in LA to record a take. When I got his version in, I was flabbergasted: I LOVED his voice and was very surprised he was such a good singer! We then perfected and polished the song together into what it is right now and performed it for the very first time at Life Is Beautiful Festival in Las Vegas. The crowd was SO surprised when I called Jeremy on stage and they heard how well he could sing! Jeremy and I became great friends in the process and are already looking at the next musical project to take on together."

What does this record say about your musical evolution as an artist?
"For me, this song is about showing the world that Sam Feldt music knows no genres or boundaries. It's something I already tried to express with my debut album From Sunrise To Sunset last year - and working on a very different sounding "trap" song with someone who has never released a track before fortifies that vision. With 'Heaven (Don't Have A Name)', I want to show the world just how diverse my music can be, while maintaining that signature Sam Feldt sound."

The track is featured on Spinnin’s New Dance Music Friday playlist. How important is streaming to you?
"That's awesome! I think streaming is the way people consume music nowadays in a lot of countries, so I definitely focus on promoting my music on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music a lot. One way to do it, is to get added to awesome playlists like yours so I'm happy to be a part of it!"
