KURA x Splice contest winner Léo Ben Salem takes the Talent Pool spotlight!

Oct 1, 2020

We asked Léo Ben Salem, the winner of the KURA Holy Grail Splice sample pack producing contest, a few questions about his winning production as we are curious to hear what his thoughts on the track and the Talent Pool are. Find the interview below!

What can you tell us about this track?
"This track is a mix of several different styles. For this track, I really wanted to do something very musical with the guitar solo in break 2 and a very melodious chord suite. It's important for me to stay in the musicality, but I wanted to make a big drop, less musical than the breaks but with a bigger sound design and with that, the KURA pack helped me a lot."

Why did you choose this style?
"I chose this style because I love the future house and I love the funky vibe, it's very "Hexagon". The KURA pack is well adapted for that. It's also a style that is booming, I think the time of progressive house is disappearing so it's very difficult to sign progressive house and big room EDM tracks today."

What makes you unique as an artist?
"I think I have a different approach to other producers, I work a lot on my breaks, I really look for musicality, chord changes, I try to find suites of chords less usual than what we normally hear. I try jazzy chords because I love jazz and funk. I really try to focus on musicality before working on sound design Sound design is important too, but a lot of producers already have a big sound design."

What do you like most about the Talent Pool?
"I find the Talent Pool interesting to get feedback from the community, but it's important to send quality as much as possible because there is a lot of competition. The only way to differentiate is the quality of your track, and the quality of the mix/master because many producers are really good too... The Talent Pool is a really good way to make interesting encounters between producers."

What is your goal with your music?
"My goal is to be able to share my music with people, to try to bring something new and collaborate with other producers and singers. I want to be a professional DJ/producer. I already have a few opportunities, but my ultimate goal would be to see my productions played on the big stages."

Very interesting answers by Leo, we are excited to see how he has set himself a goal and continues to work hard to achieve it. Have you become curious what the KURA Holy Grail Sample Pack contains and sounds like? Click here to check what is in the pack!
