Spinnin’ Records x Radio 538 Summer

Nov 27, 2020

During two days, and for the first time after five months of lockdown in the Netherlands, we gave a handful of DJs the taste of performing again in front of a crowd. Together with Radio 538, one of the country's biggest Dutch radio stations, we developed a campaign to bring back for two days live DJ sets - safely.

Goal
Due to the Coronavirus, all live events have been canceled all over the world in 2020. In a joint effort with Radio 538, we wanted to bring the summer feeling back to the fans and their favorite DJs. Therefore, we organized a unique beach party: the 538 Summer Sessions! Afrojack, Kris Kross Amsterdam, Lucas & Steve, and Sam Feldt were the campaign's spotlight. In this partnership, we saw an opportunity to help our artists, as we locked additional airplay time on Radio 538, for one week and a half, before the event. The event was special not only for the crowd but for the DJs as well. Most of them had performed live for the last time six months before.

Idea
Following all the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and Environment rules, our DJs performed exclusively from Zandvoort's beach. One hundred lucky listeners won access to an incredible 90-minute set at the Safari Lodge and the organizers welcomed them with Lipton drinks and a private booth. To win a ticket, listeners had the chance to press a special Summer Sessions button in the radio’s app. As soon as one of the tracks by the producers in question was being played on the radio, the listener had to press the button first to win four tickets to one of the shows. To comply with the COVID-19 regulations and to ensure that the decibel levels were being met, we worked closely with the local authorities during the whole campaign.

Results
We're proud that we could bring the sun, sea, people, and live music together again. Not only for the fans, but for our artists as well! With this campaign, we were capable of securing extra airtime on the radio, which is fundamental when DJs cannot perform live. We hope to continue working closely with Radio 538 for partnerships that transform the impossible into possible.
